88.1 WSBF-FM Clemson

I am a part of Upstate's Only True Alternative Radio Station, which is run completely by students. I have my own show (fourth year in a row!) It is called Spoopy, and it is currently on Mondays from 11 AM to 12:30 PM. I am also the co-leader of one of our community houses, the Purple Parrots.

My Show: Spoopy

For the past four years, I have had the opportunity to host my own radio show, steadily growing my presence within the station and advancing from a late-night 11 PM Wednesday time slot to a highly coveted prime-time position on Mondays at 11 AM. This experience has required a deep understanding of both the technical and creative aspects of radio broadcasting, as well as a commitment to consistency and professionalism in delivering high-quality programming each week.

Running my show involves mastering the broadcasting board, ensuring a smooth and seamless live transmission, and adhering to all FCC regulations and WSBF station policies. Each week, I carefully curate a new playlist, selecting music that aligns with station guidelines while also engaging my audience with fresh and diverse content. Beyond hosting, I also play an active role in training and mentoring new DJs, passing on essential broadcasting skills and knowledge to the next generation. This position has strengthened my technical proficiency, adaptability, and leadership skills, while also deepening my appreciation for the power of music and media in connecting with an audience.

Purple Parrots

As co-house leader for one of the houses within our station, I play an active role in fostering a sense of community, camaraderie, and connection among members. This position allows me to serve as a mentor and guide, particularly for freshmen, by answering their questions, offering support, and helping them navigate their transition into our group. Beyond providing guidance, one of my key responsibilities is event planning, ensuring that our house has opportunities to bond outside of our regular activities.

So far, I have organized and coordinated a variety of engaging events designed to bring our group together in a fun and relaxed environment. These have included coffee and study sessions, roller-skating outings, movie nights, and Mario Kart competitions, all of which have strengthened relationships and built a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere. Through this leadership role, I have developed organizational, communication, and event planning skills, while also fostering a positive and supportive community for my peers.
